Alongside global brands such as PepsiCo, American Express and broadcaster Channel 4, the agency’s work for the neighbourhood app Nextdoor sees them compete in the category of ‘Branded Content’.
Digitom’s series of stories for Nextdoor’s Good Neighbour Awards in 2020 captured a number of community-based organisations that had gone above and beyond at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Digitom’s founder and creative director Tom Chown said: “It feels like a lifetime ago, between the first and second lockdowns in England, when we travelled to Scotland and back to film these amazing stories across the UK. We left Edinburgh the night Nicola Sturgeon announced all hospitality and leisure would close again, followed closely by England and Wales.
“Being trusted to capture such engaging stories is what makes us tick, and credit lies with the team at Nextdoor that commissions these branded films, but more importantly a huge thank you to the individuals who let us come and film with them. From Alastair and his team who used their 3D printing machines at work to make face visors for the NHS, the St John’s Wood neighbours who rallied around to cook hot meals for the vulnerable and of course Daniel and his parish council volunteers, who did weekly shops for shielding neighbours.”
After locking down in March and pivoting to delivering more animations and remote production for clients, the video production company was able to re-start face-to-face filming in May, once the government published guidelines on how the film and TV industry could operate. Incorporating those guidelines into day-to-day practices made for a busy summer and winter.
Tom continued: “2020 was undoubtably the most challenging year for our business, but it kept us on our toes with remote home-working and constantly keeping up-to-speed with what we could and couldn’t do. At a time when we’re dealing with the fallout from COVID-19 travel restrictions and the aftermath of Brexit complications for the creative sector it’s great to be recognised for our work among tough international competition.”
