HOPS360

Shepherd Neame, founded in Faversham in 1698, is Britain’s oldest continuously operating brewery and remains deeply rooted in Kent, using local ingredients including Kentish hops grown in the Garden of England.

Achievements

The brief

Shepherd Neame approached us with a brief to use innovative 360-degree video techniques to bring the story of harvesting hops to life.

The aim was to celebrate its brewing heritage and connect modern audiences with the people, places and craft behind each beer.

This was a world-first for the brewing industry, to create an immersive, educational film that would strengthen brand storytelling and create distinctive content for use across events, social channels and wider communications.

Our approach

Working closely with their communications team, we shaped a 360-degree brand film around personal storytelling and audience engagement.

The format placed viewers inside the hop-harvesting process, from field to kiln, with a story led by Tony Redsell, widely known as the godfather of UK hop growing. His knowledge, warmth and first-hand experience give the story credibility and a strong human voice.

With support from Shepherd Neame’s archivist, we added animated content created from historical imagery to explain hop varieties and connect innovation with authentic communications storytelling.

The outcome

HOPS360° created an immersive communications experience for the brewing industry, combining heritage, brand storytelling and emerging technology.

The film premiered at the Craft Beer Festival in London with visitors viewing it through VR headsets, before launching internationally on YouTube, extending reach and encouraging audiences to explore the people and craft behind Shepherd Neame’s beers.

This project shows how strategic communications content can make heritage stories more accessible, engaging and memorable and was recognised by the industry when HOPS360° was shortlisted as a finalist at the Kent Digital Awards for Use of Video for Business.
