The brief
The colorectal team commissioned a pilot film to explain the enhanced recovery patient pathway.
The goal was to help patients understand each stage, feel prepared for treatment, and support recovery with clear guidance.
Our brief was to turn detailed clinical information into a clear, reassuring learning resource that kept the expertise of the care team front and centre.
Our approach
Working with the Trust’s communications team, we developed a people-led learning and development asset built on clarity, empathy, and trust.
We filmed consultants, doctors, and nurses speaking directly to camera, giving patients a clear introduction to the team and the pathway ahead. We also used filmed scenes in key hospital settings to show what patients could expect at each stage.
The film covers pre-assessment, surgery, pain management, and post-operative recovery in a format that is simple, structured, and easy to revisit.

The outcome
The pilot film gives SASH a flexible learning and development asset that supports understanding before treatment and throughout recovery.
By setting expectations early and introducing the care team clearly, it helps patients feel informed, reassured, and ready for the next stage of care.
The project also created a scalable learning format that can support other departments, helping the Trust deliver consistent, high-quality patient information across services.
