Communications Officers and Call handlers

British Transport Police is the national police force for the rail network, keeping passengers, staff and operators across England, Scotland and Wales safe.

The brief

Alongside frontline officers, Police Staff help keep the force running effectively. This recruitment film highlights Police Staff roles in Control Rooms, including Communications Officers and Call Handlers, who support decision-making in high-pressure situations and provide vital support to frontline policing.

We were asked to produce a people and culture film for British Transport Police, focused on Communications Officers and Call Handlers working in Force Control Rooms in Birmingham and London.

The aim was to attract candidates who understood the responsibility, pace and impact of these Police Staff roles.

Our approach

Working closely with the British Transport Police recruitment team, we developed a people-led film production approach that gave colleagues space to describe their Control Room roles in their own words.

The film combines first-hand stories with dramatic reconstructions, shot in a fly-on-the-wall style inside Birmingham’s Force Control Room.

This approach shows the pace, pressure and importance of British Transport Police Control Room work while preserving accuracy and respect for the setting.

Throughout the project, we prioritised clarity and realism so potential applicants could understand what it means to support frontline policing behind the scenes as Police Staff.

The outcome

The finished film offers a compelling and realistic example of people and culture film production, showing how authentic employee stories can support recruitment and employer brand communications.

The recruitment film was shared on YouTube and embedded on the British Transport Police careers website, with short-form social edits created for wider reach.

All assets were subtitled in English and Welsh to improve accessibility across platforms.

Together, this content helps British Transport Police attract candidates motivated by responsibility, teamwork and public service.
